The Rating of Trust/Distrust of Foreign Investors towards the Ukrainian Politicians
19.06.2006 13:39

Yuriy Yekhanurov has the highest rating of trust. 71.4% of respondents believe that if Mr. Yekhanurov becomes the Prime Minister, this will have a positive effect on the attraction of foreign investors into Ukraine.

It is worth mentioning that none of the other candidates received a positive rating.

Petro Symonenko has the most negative rating of distrust. 100% of participants of the survey believe that the reaction of foreign investors will be negative, if the communist becomes the Prime Minister. The following politicians also found themselves in the rating of distrust: Yuliya Tymoshenko (85.7%), Oleksandr Moroz (57.1%), Viktor Yanukovych (42.9%) and Petro Poroshenko (28.6%).

The following candidates were given an ambiguous rating: Petro Poroshenko (71.4%), Viktor Yanukovych (57.1%), Oleksandr Moroz (42.9%), Yuriy Yekhanurov (28.6%) and Yuliya Tymoshenko (14.3%).

There are experts believing that regarding:

Mr. Symonenko – “he will never become the Prime Minister, hence, no comments.”
Mr. Poroshenko – “he will not become the Prime Minister, but the reaction of investors to him would be “somewhat positive and somewhat negative”. It would be positive because there would be no confrontation between the Prime Minister and the President. And it would be negative in view of his negative image and connections with big business.”
Mr. Moroz“he has a slight chance of becoming the Prime Minister. But Moroz doesn’t have a clear understanding of the concept of what he would do with the economy. That’s why investors would treat him with caution. The positive trait of Moroz is his position of equal distance from all oligarchs and business groups.
Mrs. Tymoshenko “has little chance of becoming the Prime Minister, though it is also possible. Yuliya Tymoshenko has a bad reputation as she is considered to have anti-market instincts. Plus her pursuit for property redistribution would do no good to investors.”
Mr. Yanukovych “has no chance of becoming the Prime Minister at all, primarily due to the negative attitude towards his candidature on the part of the majority of representatives of the political establishment and society. And his connections with the Donetsk clan also do not play into his hands, though they are obviously overestimated.”
Mr. Yekhanurov“has a good chance of becoming the Prime Minister. He is the best candidate for investors. First, he is against “reprivatization”. Second, Yekhanurov is in favor of big foreign capital coming to Ukraine (though this is not always for the benefit of the country). The fact that all big acquisition deals (Aval, Kryvorozhstal, Ukrsibbank, Ukrsotsbank etc.) were concluded under Prime Minister Yekhanurov, but not Prime Minister Tymoshenko, also speaks in favor of Yekhanurov.
